Noncontrast head CT should be acquired prior to IV contrast administration, in order to optimize detection of intracranial hemorrhage
CT of the thoracic and lumbar spine can be acquired as a single helical acquisition along with CT of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis in order to minimize radiation
